Bermudas Maritime Museum was built by convict labor during the
19th century. The museum exhibits artifacts that pertain to Bermuda’s
nautical heritage. The museums ceilings, buildings, and architecture
is a must see on its own. Some highlights of the museum are the
underground tunnels, gun ports, and the water gate pond that was
specially designed for boats entering from sea. The museum is a
great learning experience and will teach any one regardless of age
the islands long and intimate connection with the sea. The Maritime
Museum’s most famous exhibit is in the Shifting House. There
you will find artifacts such as gold bars, pottery, jewelry, silver
coins, and other items that were recovered from he 16th and 17th
century shipwrecks. The Museum is filled with many building each
has a significance to Bermuda’s history and admission to the
Shifting House, Queen's Exhibition Hall, Forster Cooper Building,
Boat loft, and Commissioner's House are included in the entrance
price to the Bermuda Maritime Museum. Have a relaxing day filled
with history and culture at the Maritime Museum.
