Cancun Culture

Just about everyone you meet in Cancun seems to be smiling – hotel staff, tour guides, taxi drivers. Who wouldn’t? They live in paradise and they are anxious to make your stay in it an enjoyable one. Most people go out of their way to try to speak English with tourists, but your attempts to speak some Spanish are generally appreciated.

As Cancun was created with tourism in mind, it is

not the best place to immerse yourself in an authentic Mexican cultural experience. Of course, its ruins can teach you a great deal about Mexico’s past, but if you would like a less packaged experience, you might enjoy trips to nearby Merida and Valladolid.
