The Heart of Pop Culture.
London is without a doubt the most widely
recognized city in the world. After all, who hasn’t
seen pictures of London’s famous double decker buses,
Big Ben, or the
Queen’s guards? Still, London is characterized by much
more then its pop icons. London is over 2,000 years old. Making
its mark on the world as a busy port town during the Roman
Empire. Today, remembrances from London’s various ages
exist all around the city. London is a truly cosmopolitan
city. Though London honors its past, the cit
y leaped into
the 21st century with a running start.
Over 7 million people from all different
backgrounds and ethnicity call London home. Many first time visitors
are surprised by how multicultural the city is. However, diversity
has long been a part of London’s
culture, dating back to the arrival of the Roman legions
during the 1st century. Londoners embrace the city’s
diversity but still celebrate London’s inherit charm.
Complete with its distinct black taxicabs and unique red
phone booths on every corner, London has perhaps more to offer
visitors than any other European city. England’s capital
is one of the most widely visited tourist destinations, for
a good reason. One could e
asily spend their entire visit just
trying to decide what do to. The city has countless tourist
attractions including the famed Buckingham
Palace, Westminster
Abbey, and the Tower
Bridge, to name a few. The London
Underground is the best way to get to the sights. The
Tube has stops nearby all the major attractions. In addition
to its main attractions, the city offers dazzling art museums,
theater, superb shopping, trendy restaurants, and a nightlife
that’s second to none.
After you get your fill of the sights, you may want to spend
part of the day shopping on Oxford Street or at Harrods, the
world’s largest department store. London is a shoppers
dream. Though, the stores and sidewalks are almost always
congested. You may want to duck into a nearby pub along the
way. London has over 3,000 bars and pubs so you shouldn’t
have any problems finding one. In the evening, have dinner
at one of the swank restaurants around Piccadilly Circus.
Afterwards, take in a show at one of the theaters around Covent
Gardens or checkout one of Brixton’s hot dance clubs.
With all the choices available, everyone will experience London
differently. Regardless of how you choose to experience London,
the makings are there for a rich and rewarding visit.
