Getting Around British Virgin Islands

It’s best to navigate the British Virgin Islands by foot or taxi. Public busses do run on Tortola and Virgin Gorda only, but the service is thought to be unreliable.

Scato’s Bus Service (tel: 284-494-2365) runs on Tortola Monday-Friday from 7:30am until dawn, crossing from the north end to the west end of the island. Passengers must hail the bus like a cab and fares range $2-4 per ride.

On Virgin Gorda, bus service is spotty, but open-sides safari busses run along the main road. The independently owned buses hold up to 14 passengers and cost around $3.50 per person.

A variety of ferry companies operate public boats to shuttle passengers within and between the British and U.S. Virgin Islands.
