Cabo San Lucas History
|
|
Cabo San Lucas’ location
at the southern tip of Baja California made it a natural place
for a harbor during colonial times. In the 1930s, Cabo San
Lucas was just a small fishing village before it was discovered
by sports fishing enthusiasts who began to flock to the area
in the 1950s and 60s, terming the area “Marlin Alley.”
With the construction of the Los Cabos International |
Airport in the 1980s, the area grew even more popular with tourists
– from Cabo San Lucas through the resort area to San Jose
del Cabo, approximately twenty miles north. Over the last forty
years, Cabo San Lucas has grown to become one of the most popular
tourist destinations in Mexico, and it is still growing. It is now
not only popular for fishing, but golf has taken off here as well
and it offers some of the worlds finest golf courses and weather
that is great nearly year-round for golfing.
Plus with beautiful waters and fine nearly year-round weather,
this is a great place to jump in and try out just about any water
sport that you are interested, from SCUBA diving to waterskiing.
Just remember to use caution as some of the area beaches have dangerously
rough water. (There are often red flag warnings or yellow flags
to encourage caution.)
