Phoenix. |
The Valley of the Sun.
Phoenix
was given its name after the mythical bird that rises to new
life out of its own ashes. The name was fitting when it was
coined and is still fitting today. Thousands of years ago
the Hohokam Indians dug irrigation canals throughout the area
that is today Phoenix. The canals where abandoned for many
years then cleaned up, expanded, and put back to use in the
mid 1800s. The rest is history. Today, Phoenix is a desert
oasis complete with palm trees, citrus, and many other types
of greenery. Of course, you'll still find native cacti on
every street.
Phoenix boasts near perfect weather 9 months
of the year. During the summer, misters are used to cool off
outdoor patios and shopping areas. Phoenix’s premier
golf courses and luxury
resorts are attracting more and more vacationers every
year. The many mountain preserves around Phoenix including
Camelback, Papago, and South Mountain can be admired from
almost anywhere in the city. These preserves are popular attractions
for joggers, bikers, and dog walkers a like
The city is also home to such rare gems as the Heard
Museum and the Desert
Botanical Gardens. In addition, the neighboring city of
Scottsdale has some of the best shopping in the nation along
with many fine restaurants. You definitely will not run out
of things to do while in Phoenix Arizona. So go ahead and
book your dream vacation.
