With its complicated one-way streets and frustrating traffic, driving
a car through San Francisco can be a bit of a challenge. Luckily,
the city offers much in the way of public transportation and at
fairly reasonable rates.
The San Francisco Municipal Railway or Muni operates three public
transportation services that cover the entire city. Inexpensive
ways to get around the city, buses, the Metro (subway), and historic
streetcars cost $1.50 each way. Subway turnstiles require coins
to enter. And at $5 per ride, the city’s cable cars are a
fun way to tour the city. Discounts are offered for senior citizens
and children under the age of 5.
