Thailand Culture
|
Thailand is one of the largest travel destinations
in Southeast Asia. Thailand offers a rich, deeply spiritual
history that lives on through the lives of the Thai people
today.
The country is primarily Buddhist with beautiful temples
and quiet, peaceful monasteries. More than 90% of the population
claim Buddhism as their religion. The second largest religion
is Islam.
|
For many years, Thailand was a kingdom. In 1932, a constitutional
monarchy was established and free elections selected members of
parliament, but the Thai people still hold the Monarchy in high
regard.
His Majesty Bumibol Adulyadej, who currently reigns, is respected
by Thais and the international community too. HM is ninth in the
line of the Chakri Dynasty and also referred to as King Rama IX.

Thailand Shopping
|
Thailand is full of traditional
handcrafts, textiles and jewelry and an abundance of shopping
experiences. You’ll find everything from four-level
upscale shopping malls and department stores to street vendors
and outdoor markets.
Shopping is part of the year-end celebrations, as many department
stores, hotels and shopping malls
|
around the Ratchaprasong Intersection have created an outdoor
shopping street filled with decorations and fresh, vibrant colors.
You will also find beautiful architecture, street furniture to rest
those tired feet and smooth sidewalks. Around the intersection are
covered, elevated walkways to make it easier to get through the
streets.
During this time, there are shopping discounts, special offers
and celebrations with breathtaking entertainment. If traveling around
the New Year, be sure to check out “Bangkok Countdown”
held in front of the Central World Plaza on New Year’s Eve
to help the Thai people welcome in the New Year’s celebration.
