On summer evenings you’ll find athletic twentysomethings diving for balls on the sandy volleyball courts on the north side of Cambie Bridge, and there are always plenty of joggers and cyclists traversing Stanley Park’s Sea Wall.

Trendy shops and cafés abound in the Kitsilano section, southwest of downtown, along 4th Avenue and many of its side-streets. On Granville Island there are plenty of art and craft galleries, and don’t miss the public market.

If it’s a mall you’re after, head to the Pacific center (550-700 West Georgia Street; 604-688-7236), located underground between Granville and Howe Streets. There’s music, clothes, electronics, a food court, and everything else you’d expect.
